Positive relationships, belonging and a community that is profoundly Christian

SACRED Heart is no ordinary school.

Our academic results, outstanding success in extra curricular activities and students who willingly enjoy a challenge, show that our school has a strong sense of inner belief.

Our standards are high but not unachievable and every student has the right to feel happy and safe.

It is no coincidence that after Year 10, many of our senior students achieve leadership positions in Year 12 and consistently achieve at a very high level in the Higher School Certificate.

There is also the opportunity to complete a K-12 Catholic education after Year 10 at Hennessy Catholic College in Young providing a quality pathway to post school life.

Sacred Heart is a school of ‘tough love’. Our students need understanding, compassion and we never neglect the importance of quality pastoral care.

Our school also believes in boundaries, pride in uniform and developing resilient young minds that can rejoice in success and who also develop the skills and qualities to cope with life’s difficulties.

The quality of pastoral care at Sacred Heart is outstanding and our enrolment size enables every student to feel valued.

The successful Peer Support Program across K-10 provides peer role modelling and wonderful opportunities for leadership development.

There are exciting times ahead for Sacred Heart with:

* The introduction of Connected Learning Communities (cLc), which is an online portal for teaching and learning and will provide parents with an avenue to become more involved in classroom learning.

* The street frontage for the Administration Centre providing improved accessibility for parents and visitors.

* The new K-10 library.

* The formation of a Playground Planning Committee to develop a staged scope of works through community consultation for the complete upgrade of the primary play area.

* Continued emphasis on information technology for teaching and learning.

* Involvement in the Catholic Education Office IDEAS Program, whish is a process for the future visions.

Sacred Heart lives on holy ground.

Our school community understands the importance of a 21st century education that is holistic in nature, embracing prayer life and active participation in liturgical celebration.

Sacred Heart is blessed to have committed parents and Father Kevin Barry-Cotter and Sister Kathy Hodge who actively support the spiritual growth of students and staff.

Sacred Heart is true to its motto of Faith and Knowledge where a sense of belonging is nurtured and taken by every student beyond their school years.

Hennessy Catholic College

Principal: Peter Webster

Captains: Joseph Marinan from Cootamundra and

Amy Dewar of Young

HENNESSY is a regional Catholic College for students in the south-west slopes region with 45 per cent of their students travelling to school from as far as Binalong, Cowra, Jugiong, Cootamundra, Boorowa and Grenfell.

Hennessy is proud of the way it welcomes new students into the College and this year we witnessed the largest ever contingent from Cootamundra.

So large that a new bus has had to be ordered to cater for the numbers.

Our College captain Joseph Marinan is a former Cootamundra Sacred Heart Central School student and his leadership skills were quickly identified by his peers and teachers since moving into Years 11 and 12 at Hennessy.

We wish Joseph all the best in this position of leadership and as he strives to achieve personal excellence.

Hennessy students are achieving outstanding results on many levels.

In 2011, 49 per cent of our Year 12s achieved an ATAR of 80+ with 86 per cent being offered first round university places, coupled with the students gaining workplace accreditation and apprenticeships, students are continually being challenged to strive to achieve and make a difference in their worlds.

In 2011, two students achieved their dreams on the sporting field with Isaac Smith being a first round draft pick with Hawthorn and Nathan Lyon being selected for the Australian Cricket side. What an outstanding achievement!!!

At Hennessy students are achieving their dreams!!!

New year new assets for preschool

THE Cootamundra Centenary Preschool have excitedly began the new term with a new look preschool.

The staff and students this year are the first to benefit from major renovations, which were undertaken during the Christmas school holidays.

The renovations include the existing verandah and bag hooks area enclosed adding more room inside, a new multipurpose room, which will be used for committee and staff meetings and store resources, a revamped directors office, new administration office, renovated bathroom featuring modern luxuries such as sensor taps and for the first time warm water and a new look kitchen and prep room.

The preschool has been freshly painted and new flooring installed throughout the building.

Works were not only on the interior of the preschool but also undertaken outside including a revamped storage shed to house play equipment and a new covered entrance.

Cootamundra Centenary Preschool director Sarah Hardie and the preschool P and C would like to extend their thanks to local architect Hugo Harpley for his designs, local builder Rod Knagge for overseeing all the building works and Cootamundra plumber Don Oliver for his tireless plumbing work over the course of the renovations.

The renovations were completed just in time for the commencement of the new term.

An official opening will take place on Saturday, March 24 where members of the community are invited to walk through the preschool and check out the upgrades.
