WEDDING DAY FOR GEMMA

AND MATTHEW

The wedding of Cootamundra girl Gemma Paton and Matthew McPherson, of Lockhart, took place in the Sacred Heart Church, Cootamundra, on Saturday, October 4.

Gemma is the daughter of Morrella and Paul Paton, of Yass Road, and Matthew is the son of Karen and Greg McPherson, of Lockhart and the grandson of Cootamundra couple Mick and Val Purtell.

The brides beautiful Mancini gown was of ivory pure silk, the bodice was gathered to the hip and held in place with a flower on the side. The bodice and train were trimmed with gipure lace and adorned with crystal beading.

Attending Gemma were Jada Montgomery, Rebecca Paton, Katrina Barker and Natalie Crowe. They wore a ‘mirrormaze’ of color in satin gowns of pink and varying shades of oyster. Flowergirl Della Stanley looked sweet in an ivory satin dress with an organza overlay. It was trimmed with rose buds across the bodice.

Matthew was ably assisted by Kevin Paton, Peter Matusiak, Craig McPherson and Dean Gooden. Pageboy was Tyler McPherson.

The reception was held in the Cootamundra Town hall with 180 guests in attendance some having traveled from Mackay, Qld, Nelson Bay, Tuncurry, Tumbarumba, Lockhart and Wagga.

The happy couple here pictured in front of the semi trailers which were used to take the bridal party from the church to the reception, honeymooned in Perth and south west Western Australia. They have now made their home in Lockhart.

CONGRATULATIONS

GEMMA & MATTHEW.

BELATED BIRTHDAY GREETINGS

Could not let another day go by without making mention of the birthdays of two ‘top’ members of our community -

Mr Wal Briant from “Cowcumbla” recently celebrated his 80th birthday and his lovely wife Gail and family hosted a party at home, attended by family and friends who had traveled from far and wide. Wal, may this coming year be up there ‘with the best.’

AND, Warmest Wishes to Mrs Fay Fuller who this week celebrated her birthday.

As you do Fay, continue to ENJOY every day of the upcoming year!

CHRISTMAS PANTOMIME

The CADAS Kids and CADAS Inc are pleased to be bringing to the Cootamundra Town Hall on Thursday, December 4, ‘Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol’. It is touring the Riverina and South West and we are ‘privileged’ that the group has seen fit to include Cootamundra in it’s very tight itinerary.

It’s great fun, an audience pleaser filled with laughs and capped with, of course, a happy ending. The children and adults alike will delight in this ‘Christmas evening out’. On for one night only, do get into the Toy Grove and pick up your tickets.

EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

Former Cootamundra girl Leigh Maloney (the daughter of Graham and Robyn Thompson) was recently awarded Wagga Wagga’s Employee of Year Award.

Leigh was educated at the Sacred Heart School, then went on to complete her schooling at Wagga’s Trinity Senior High School. She continued her studies at Charles Sturt University, Wagga, completing a Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Science) afterwhich she joined the firm of GHD, Wagga.

Michael Suidgeest, an environmental scientist at GHD, has worked with Leigh for the past two years, praising her as a great supervisor and mentor, fun to work with while always remaining professional.

Leigh’s husband Luke Maloney as well as her parents and family are justly proud of all Leigh’s achievements and now this award as Employee of the Year 2008!

Just love writing stories of our young people moving on and doing well!

CONGRATULATIONS LEIGH.

STATE AWARD

And yet another local youngster who has moved on and is going from ‘strength to strength’ is Tom Bradley.

Tom has been nominated for the Dancer’s Award in the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria’s Bruce Awards Night to be held this year in Ballarat. He is one of 7 dancers selected from over 70 musical productions held this year in Victoria.

Tom’s selection came from his role as Mr Mistofelees in the Cats production by the Altona Theatre Company. Tom was pleasantly surprised, as his nomination for the role included a very demanding dance solo and ensemble singing and much time on stage in character. WELL-DONE TOM.

ST.ANDREW’S DAY

The Presbyterian Women’s Association, Cootamundra morning branch is delighted to let everyone know that they will be celebrating St. Andrew’s Day with a morning tea in Scots Church Hall on Thursday next, November 27, commencing at 10am. As well as morning tea and entertainment, they will have goods and Christmas gifts for sale with all proceeds from the morning going to the Allowah Children’s Hospital, Dundas, which is the Presbyterian Church’s hospital and cares for disabled children and young people with physical and intellectual disabilities and is the only hospital of its kind in the State.

All are MOST WELCOME to come along.

FR. HUNT’S PASSING

Many locals will be sad to hear of the passing of Father Tom Hunt who had been a priest here in the Sacred Heart parish a number of years ago. He was aged 73 years.

A native of Gundagai Fr Hunt passed away peacefully at his brother’s Gundagai home on Saturday morning last. He and the Hunt family had gathered in Gundagai to celebrate the 60th birthday of a family member.

Fr Hunt’s concelebrated Requiem Mass will take place at St Patrick’s Church,

Gundagai today at 2pm, after which he will be buried at the North Gundagai cemetery beside his late mother and father.

TOMORROW’S THE DAY!

After weeks of organising and preparation it’s happening TOMORROW!!

The Arts Centre BIG Market Day opens at 9am with a diverse range of 33 stalls participating. Why not get there early and enjoy a barbecue breakfast or arrive a little later and sit down to a gourmet lunch with wine.

Cootamundra and district residents are encouraged to come along and enjoy the atmosphere, check out all the goodies on sale and enjoy the music playing throughout the day. SEE YOU THERE.

EVENING OF DANCE!
