GRADUATION
Former Cootamundra High School students Aleshia Flanagan (left) and Kathryn McLeod recently graduated from the Australian National University with BA (Honours), Aleshia in English and Kathryn in film. They are shown here celebrating after the ceremony with Professor the Honorable Kim Beazley AC, the Chancellor of the University and now ambassador to the US.
Aleshia is still singing and recording with her band and is considering going on to do a PhD, whilst Kathryn is working at the Australian Sound and Film Archives in the capital before possibly travelling overseas.
HOME AGAIN
Returned home after a much needed break away are the Shields family of Thompson Street.
Brad and Paula and their daughters Emma and Lucinda spent two days in Sydney visiting Brad’s sister, before travelling onwards to Newcastle where they spent a week enjoying the surf and sand.
Three year old Emma particularly enjoyed visiting the beach. Welcome home!
RUBY’S CHRISTENING
Christened last Sunday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cootamundra was Ruby Maree Taylor, the daughter of David and Donna Taylor.
Big sisters Madeleine (10) and Claudia (8) were there to celebrate this special day, with a luncheon held afterwards for family and friends.
Godparents were good friends Graham Thompson and Kelly Hewson.
TEN YEARS SERVICE
Missing from the Sacred Heart school office this year is Anne Ruskin, who has retired from her position after ten years service.
Anne and her husband David intend travelling and spending more time with family.
Anne is currently staying in Terrigal with her son Darrell, his wife Meaghan and children Zoe and Ben, with trips to Hamilton Island and Tasmania planned for the not-too-distant future.
Anne will be sorely missed and staff and students from the Sacred Heart community wish her all the best.
ON THE MEND
Wonderful to hear that Maurice Hanlon, currently a patient at Mercy Care Centre in Young, is on the road to recovery.
Maurie is now feeling up to receiving visitors, so anyone wishing to call in and visit will be more than welcome.
NEW BUB
Receiving congratulations on the arrival of their new baby boy are Michael and Meg Morton from Temora.
George Thomas Patrick was born at Calvary Hospital in Wagga on January 31, weighing a healthy 3.48 kilograms.
Siblings Joseph (5) and Malle (3) are delighted to welcome a new baby into the family.
George is a grandson for Colin and Anne McCrone of Temora, and Robyn and the late Colin Morton of Stockinbingal.
FUNDRAISER FOR GEORGIA
Staff from Woolworths got out their buckets and sponges last Sunday, and held a car wash fundraiser for local girl Georgia James and her family. Support shown for the fundraiser exceeded all expectations, with in excess of $1200 raised on the day. Pictured at the car wash are Cootamundra Woolworths staff members and Georgia’s cousins and uncle from Wagga.
COOTA CONTINGENT
Encumbent Year 12 student Jordy Ward, son of Rod and Janelle, was on hand on Australia Day at St Stanislaus College, Bathurst, as part of the student leadership body who welcomed new students to the school. The new Cootamundra contingent included Year 9 students Will Leahy and Will Shannon and Pat Meyer who began Year 11. Joe McNamara, son of Matthew and Therese, also returned to the college where he will complete his Year 11 studies this year.

Home on January 23 to celebrate her 21st birthday with family was former Cootamundra girl Kate Taylor. Kate, who now resides in Canberra, was pictured on her special day with her sister Jamie and grandmother Nell Holder.
Congratulations Kate on reaching this milestone birthday.
