COMBINED PARTY
A lot of laughs and even a few tears were shed at a combined send-off/long service party held at Restaurant 116 at the Globe Hotel on Saturday evening, attended by Cootamundra Herald staff.
Advertising consultant Janet McAtear was farwelled, and thanked for her six years of service in what can (sometimes) be a tough job!
Janet will be sorely missed, but knows she is always welcome to call into the Herald for a chat or cuppa.
Helen Johnson is to be commended for ‘clocking up’ thirty years of continuous service - how appropriate that a beautiful, ornate wall-clock was given to her by management and staff in appreciation of the dedication and professionalism she has shown throughout that time.
Well done, ladies.
GREAT NIGHT OUT
I would like to give Cathy Holder and staff at Restaurant 116 at the Globe Hotel a well deserved pat on the back.
The meals served there on Saturday evening were second to none - combined with friendly staff and great service, I am happy to recommend it to others for a great night out.
P.S. - Common sense dictates that on a night out, if you’ve had a few drinks, it’s best to leave your car at the premises overnight, no matter how bad it looks the next day!
18TH BIRTHDAY
Out and about on Saturday evening was the always lovely Eliza Millington, who last week celebrated her 18th birthday.
The family party held at her Cooper Street home was hosted by her parents John and Deb, with elder sisters Kate and Rosie travelling back specially to attend.
Congratulations and best wishes, Eliza!
DEEPEST SYMPATHY
Sympathy is being extended to Vilma Gilpin, whose husband Bob passed away last week. A lovely service to celebrate the life of Bob was held last Wednesday. He is survived by Vilma and his children Dianne, Tony and Chris, his grandchildren Jacom, Jessie and the special Shelley.
OFF TO UNIVERSITY
Cootamundra Year 12 leavers Keden Montgomery, Olivia Flinn and Alex Mahon have now settled in to life at the ANU, Canberra, where they are all living on campus.
Olivia will be studying for a Science degree in Psychology, whilst Alex will be completing a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
APPRENTICESHIP
Anthony Pollard is happy to have a new recruit onboard at Cootamundra Metal Works.
Isaac Mitchell has just begun an apprenticeship, not unfamiliar with the workings as he completed work experience there the year before last.
At the completion of his four year course, Isaac will have a Certificate 3 in Steel Fabrication.
JOKE OR MENACE?
Has anyone else noticed the “Welcome to Woop Woop” sign that greets visitors to Cootamundra, adjacent to the Quarry along the Olympic Way?
I have been aware of the sign for a few months now, and keep expecting that Cootamundra Shire Council workers would have noticed it in their travel’s and would have removed it.
But maybe I’m just a stick-in-the-mud - what do other readers think?
Is the sign just a bit of fun, or should it be removed?
