LONG TIME FRIENDS

Mrs Lorna Arentz, who celebrated her birthday recently, is pictured with long time friend Mrs Nell Bodycott. They were enjoying the recent Christmas in July party which took place at the Cootamundra Nursing Home.

The ladies tell the story that they first met at the Daffodil Tea Luncheon in the Cootamundra Town Hall some 60 years ago!

AND, to all those heading off to the Annual Daffodil Tea TODAY have a pleasant day out. The Town Hall will be heated and a delicious lunch will be served. I couldn’t think of a nicer way to spend a winter’s day.

TRAGIC PASSING

It is with sadness that we mention the untimely passing of Michael Meagher.

Michael is the nephew of Mrs Michelle Baldry and he died last weekend in a skiing accident at Perisher. He was aged 55 years.

He was the son of the late Mr Andy Meagher and Jill, who resided in Richards Street for many years. Michael was born here and attended the Sacred Heart School prior to attending St Ignatius College, Riverview.

His brother, Dr. Bill Meagher of Young, is known to many locals and siblings also surviving are Tony, Jo, Sandy, Lisa and Richard.

Brother Matthew predeceased him.

Michael’s wife Lisa and children survive him and they will join with family and friends today in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, North Sydney for a Requiem Mass in celebration of his life.

GOOD LUCK BELINDA

Belinda Freer, beautician and new proprietor of Massage and Beauty Spot, is one of three finalists from the Riverina/South West vying for Apprentice of the Year.

She did her degree at the Wagga Tafe College and tomorrow travels to Wagga for the final judging.

We wish Belinda GOOD LUCK, and later this month she will return to Wagga for the announcement.

SWAN LAKE

This is the final call for any Cootamundra theatre goers who are interested in attending Swan Lake on Ice at the Canberra Civic Theatre, set to take place on Saturday, September 10.

If planning to join the bus to Canberra do be in touch with Sue (6942 6296) by this Sunday.

AND a pleasant day out will be assured to all who are planning on a drive to Jugiong to attend the Quilt and Craft Exhibition taking place tomorrow and Sunday at the Jugiong Memorial Hall.

A light lunch will be served and all proceeds will go to that very worthy cause The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.

DOING THE ROUNDS

District gentleman Doug Simpson certainly has a busy time each week working for the Riverina Regional Library carrying around the Riverina the ‘latest and greatest’ in books. As a member of our local library, how great is it today when one wants to read the latest novel, simply leave the details with Alison or the girls and ‘hey presto’ Doug will courier it from the Wagga Library to here.

His travels see him delivering books to libraries in Temora Cootamundra, Gundagai, Tumut, Junee and other Riverina towns.

It was his birthday yesterday, so Alison and Marianne had a cake and cup of tea ready to greet him.

BIRTHDAY

CELEBRATIONS

I was delighted to call at Elizabeth Anne Florist yesterday to wish them a HAPPY 35th BIRTHDAY. Yes, Allan, Phoung and Trong Jenkins have been at the helm of Elizabeth Anne for 35 years serving the community in all areas of floristry.

It was also Allan’s birthday yesterday and he tells the story that they took over ownership on his birthday 35 years ago.

Phuong was missing as she is currently in Singapore LOVING her time with their new grandson Toby who was born last month to Mark and Rosemaree Jansen. CONGRATULATIONS.
