BIGGEST WINNER

Come Alive’s Mark Elia and Sam Doidge were very happy at the interest shown in the Riverina’s Biggest Winner competition which will include Cootamundra as well as many neighbouring towns.

On Tuesday a meeting was held at Come Alive to further inform prospective participants of the challenge, with the first weigh-in to be held at the centre on August 29.

A good cross-section of the community have indicated their willingness to participate in the weight loss challenge, with the incentive of losing a few kilos, feeling fitter and looking good for the upcoming Summer months.

Cash and prizes are also on offer, with the prize pool totalling $15,000.

Staff at Come Alive are already feeling enthused, and would love to assist competitors in their weight loss and fitness goals, and would be especially pleased to have Cootamundra clients included in the winners list.

“Having a group of people involved in this has a snowball effect”, Mark said. “Even if you don’t win a prize but you lose weight - even just five kilos - and get fitter - you’re still a winner”.

An information pack is available at Come Alive - any queries may be directed to Mark and Sam.

GREAT SERVICE

Talking about Come Alive gym reminds me of an incident I noticed a few months ago.

A young mum was wanting to participate in a class but her young daughter didn’t want her to go - for whatever reason, crèche wasn’t available at that time BUT the lovely Sam Doidge stepped in and sat colouring in and talking with the little girl for the duration of the class - it didn’t go unnoticed Sam - good on you!

FUN WEEKEND

A group of Cootamundra people made the trek to Beechworth recently for the famous Ned Kelly Weekend.

Now in its seventh year, it is considered Australia’s most significant annual celebration of the Kelly legend which commemorates the anniversary of the outlaw’s committal hearing held in the historic Beechworth Courthouse.

Cootamundra’s Peter Slattery has had an interest in Ned Kelly since childhood, and along with his sister Catharine and mother Janice was thrilled to meet some of his favourite actors from the iconic telemovie “The Last Outlaw”, which this year celebrates 30 years since it was filmed.

RETIREMENT VILLAGE

I arrived at the Retirement Village yesterday in time to find lifestyle co-ordinator Carol Campbell reading the Cootamundra Herald to the residents, something they look forward to each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Carol then supplied the group with hand weights, and lead them in a set each of bicep curls, overhead presses and stretches.

The residents love participating in all the many activities available for them at the Retirement Village, with the exercise class being a favourite.

Participants included Beryl and Jack Williams, Daphne Yardley, Adelaide Rourke, Clarice Haynes, May Dean, Betty Williams, Marj Machell, June Mott and Betty Watts.

SUCCESSFUL STALL

Lois James and her band of helpers ran a very successful cake stall out the front of Rockmans yesterday morning, in memory of her beautiful granddaughter Georgia James.

All funds raised will be donated to three charities that helped the James’ family through their own difficult time, with the family feeling the need to help and show their support to Redkite, the Sydney Children’s Hospital and Country Hope.

We at the Herald were happy to support such a worthy cause, enjoying the step back in time with jaw-breaking toffees and chocolate dipped marshmallows (yum!).

Lois wishes to pass on a big thank you to all the wonderful people who bought or donated goods and is already planning a raffle for later on in the year.
