CELEBRATIONS, CELEBRATIONS

What a SURPRISE Mrs Marie Willis received when she arrived at the Muttama Hall close on midday last Saturday - her children Michael, Mark, Phillip, David, Debbie and Stephen hosted a party to mark their mum’s 80th birthday!

There were 60 friends and family members in attendance, some having travelled from Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney, Orange and Gunnedah, there to wish this lovely lady a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

The guests were treated to a great array of home made delights catered for by the Muttama Ladies. A great afternoon of reminiscing was had by all in attendance, remembering that Marie was born and raised there in Muttama, her home was just behind the Muttama tennis courts (thus the hall being an appropriate spot for the party).

HAPPY 21st

Celebrating her 21st birthday this weekend is Lauren Martin. Lauren is on the staff of Cootamundra Supa IGA and from the staff and friends HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAUREN and have a BRILLIANT weekend.

COOPER STREET QUARTET

The following group of people have given themselves the quirky name Cooper Street Quartet. Elizabeth Martel and Chris Slater plus Nancye Heath and Louise Dabin all reside within a block of each other in Cooper Street and they are currently completing their art work for the “Canvas for CanAssist”. Under the expert eye of Karen Walsh they are finishing their work ready for viewing and the auction night set to take place at the Arts Centre on Saturday, September 11. All funds raised on this night go to our local CanAssist.

On Saturday last I was at the Arts Centre enjoying performances of students from the Chris Edwards School of Dance, and pleased to pop into the Fine Arts room to meet internationally renowned Virginia Kaiser, there to conduct a two day class in the art of rustic basket weaving (each day had the full house sign up, ladies eager to learn this craft from Virginia).

September is SIZZLING with events taking place at the Arts Centre. The Wong Children will be performing tonight with all funds raised going to the Arts Centre Theatre project. Geraldine Ryan will be there Sunday with an Open Day from 10am with her Eisteddfod pupils in final stages of preparation for their Wagga trip (and there certainly is some Cootamundra TALENT heading for the Wagga Eisteddfod!) GOOD LUCK to all.

Mark Forsyth and Geraldine Ryan are in full rehearsal there for the “Friends of the Arts Centre” performance taking place towards the end of the month. Keep your eyes posted for their advert in the paper.

Community rallies support for Joe

YOUNG Joe Roberts has touched the heart of the Cootamundra community.

Dedicated members of the Cootamundra Lions Club have taken up Joe’s plight and are determined to see that Joe is provided with the assistance he needs to attend Elouera Special School.

The club has been instrumental in organising events and fundraisers for Joe.

Lions Club member Phil Quarmby said they have been

astounded, but not surprised, by the generosity of locals as the Coota community always steps up and helps one of it own.

“There’s still some way to go but we as a club are determined to reach our goal,” Mr Quarmy said.

This Sunday a sausage sizzle has been organised at Mitre 10 in Parker Street where all donations will go to the appeal.

Mitre 10 manager Grahame McGlynn said the barbecue is the perfect opportunity to raise some much needed funds, as Father’s Day traditionally sees a lot of customers through the Mitre 10 doors.

Grahame and his team, three of whom actually have the day off, will be cooking up a storm from 9am till 2pm.

“We wanted to be involved and show our support for this young fellow,” Grahame said.

“The town has been very supportive with donations steadily rolling in from individuals, businesses and community groups.”

WORK EXPERIENCE

Cootamundra girl Kristy Collingridge, the daughter of Paul and Cathy Collingridge, is currently attending Charles Sturt University Bathurst, studying for a Bachelor of Exercise Science with a Specialisation in rehabilitation.

Part of her studies require that she does time during the University year in a Work Placement situation. So she has been busy at Fitt-4-U gaining valuable experience under the guidance of Kristy Wallace and Jacky Sheahan. GOOD LUCK KRISTY.
