MUCH EXCITEMENT
It is with great excitement Stephen and Norma Buttriss of Cootamundra share the precious news of the engagement of their daughter Nicole Buttriss to Troy Roberts, the son of Darwin couple Geoff and Rob Roberts.
They announced their engagement on Christmas Day in Kep (a small coastal hideaway in Cambodia).
Nicole and Troy met whilst both living and working for the Not-for profit/Non-Government organisations based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia where Nicole continues her full time role as project Supervisor for the SHE Rescue Home.
Stephen and Norma wish to share this happy news with all those who know Nicole.
CONGRATULATIONS Nicole and Troy.
FAYE’S PASSING
It is with sadness that we make mention of the passing of former Cootamundra lady Faye Dowie (nee Wilson) of Taree.
Fay passed away on Monday, January 16, and left to mourn her passing are her siblings Irene, Robert, Ian, Margaret, Tony, Helen and Billy (deceased).
Fay resided at 6 Leigh Drive, Taree, and at the time of going to print funeral arrangements were unknown.
SYMPATHY is extended to Faye’s family at this sad time.
THE FLICs CLUB
The FLICs Club will be holding a film evening this Friday night at the Arts Centre and as Australia Day is looming the film on show will be the well known Australian movie “News Front”.
Members and intending members of the FLICs Club are most welcome to come along, the time is 7pm Friday next.
ORANGES & SUNSHINE
On Australia Day at the Arts Centre the outstanding Australian movie Oranges & Sunshine will be screened. It will be screened at 2pm and 7pm, then the following evening at 7pm. Now this is a not to be missed movie.
What a great hit the movie “Red Dog” was when screened at the Arts Centre recently. Each session was a sell out and patrons had to be turned away.
How lucky are we to have such current movies taking place in town.
HAPPY 21st
There was much fun and frivolity last weekend when Adam McPhail celebrated his 21st birthday. Adam is a member of staff at Mark Kingwill Electrical and Refrigeration.
CONGRATULATIONS Adam.
A TOP TIME
Well, many stories are emerging of a GRAND time had by all who were in Parkes last weekend for the Elvis Festival.
Of the many Coota residents who made the trip were Des Jones, Alan Kelleher, Sue Bartell and Julie Bell.
There was a little bet made prior to this group heading for Parkes that Julie Bell (former owner of the Cootamundra Laundrette) would get up and join in the karaoke!
So at the popular Parkes Broadway Hotel within an hour of arriving there Julie was up and performing Elvis numbers and after two renditions had patrons cheering and calling for more!
The Coota contingent have voted their Parkes trip up there with the best and would strongly recommend it to all - a must do event on your calendar next year.
PILATES
Want to get into an exercise class to begin the year on a good note? Well nothing beats Pilates.
Core stability and flexibility classes will commence shortly at FITT 4 U under the direction of ‘new to town’ resident Kylie Franklin.
These classes utilise pilates, Swiss ball and foam roller exercises, and to join Kylie’s classes simply call her on 0406 801315.
IT’S ON AGAIN
One of the most successful reunions held each year in town is the Coota Old Blokes “No Frills” Reunion and it’s on again over the weekend of February 25th and 26th.
This two day event takes place at the Cootamundra Country Club beginning with a get together anytime after 1pm Saturday 25th, then in the evening a dinner will be held with music for dancing afterwards for those who wish to dance the night away.
Sunday sees a morning of golf and bowls and if you can’t be there for that all are most welcome to come along for the barbecue lunch.
Pictured here at last years “Old Blokes’ Reunion are Rodney Crowe, Peter Wren and Mick O’Toole.
ON THE BUS
Last year this group of ladies had the best time thanks to the generosity of Nancy Sims who organised the best bus outings.
On a number of occasions during the year the ladies boarded the bus bound for trips to Queanbeyan for a concert, The Junee Chocolate Factory, a day out in Griffith and a visit to Wagga where they delighted in a concert at the Civic Theatre where the Kapooka Band was performing at midday.
