SURPRISE, SURPRISE

Here pictured are popular ‘local lads’ Paddy Davis and Donald Caldwell photographed at a fishing tackle shop in Devon, England.

Donald and Jackie Caldwell were in England to attend a family wedding when they ‘bumped into’ Paddy whilst in County Devon.

ALSO, whilst abroad Donald and Jackie were thrilled to hear of the news of the arrival of their granddaughter Amy Beatrice. Doug and Katherine Caldwell of Stockinbingal Road welcomed the arrival of their daughter Amy back in May and her two big brothers are’loving’ the addition their family.

Meanwhile, Paddy and his wife Jane were in England to attend the funeral of Jane’s dad Mr Douglas Mathews who passed away in May at the grand age of 100 years.

Mr Mathews who lived all his life on the family farm “Fursdon” in Devon, was a highly respected figure in the agricultural world (known affectionately as the doyen of Devon farming). He was a shrewd judge of cattle at many a local show and a committee member of the Oxford Farming Conference, an event he attended regularly. He was also chairman of the agricultural advisory committee for Westward Television.

It was only last January that Jane and Paddy plus their family traveled to England to attend Mr Mathews ‘centenary birthday’ - a time Jane recalls with much affection as her dad had a GRAND time celebrating with family and friends including Jane’s sister Susan who lives in Scotland. As this stage Mr Mathews was still living at the family home Fursdon, his beloved wife Mabel having passed away in 1996.

Shortly before his passing he had a fall at his home, suffering a broken femur. He was taken to hospital where he passed away.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS

How nice to have the opportunity to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to these two gentlemen - Neil Murray and his son-in-law Michael Axsentieff who TODAY celebrate their birthdays. Do enjoy the day.

Friends of Tracey Walker of Thompson Street, wish to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY for tomorrow July 5. Have no doubt her husband Shane and their children will enjoy the day with Tracey.

Another lady celebrating her birthday this week was Alison Knagge. Hope your day was special Alison.

BRISBANE STAY

Maree Deep has just returned from a most enjoyable break in Brisbane. Their Queensland family Simon and Kristine Deep are just LOVING life up north and Simon’s golfing position with Victoria Park Golf Complex is going from strength to strength.

Last weekend Maree accompanied Simon, Kristine and their children James and Sophie on a trip to the Sunshine Coast, spending a day in Noosa. She reports on a ‘picture perfect’ day out with the temperature at 25 degrees and water temperature at 20 degrees on Noosa Beach! Not having spent winter time in Queensland before Maree commented she could understand why so many locals travel north from May to September!

WELCOME HOME.

NOT SO WELL

There is much concern for the health of former Cootamundra lady Noeline Connor, of Campbelltown. Noeline will be remembered with much affection as Noeline Nicholson, just a TOP member of our community ‘in the old days’, and her musical talent always came to the fore when she filled the Cootamundra Town Hall to capacity with all the concerts she produced.

She just LOVES receiving the Cootamundra Herald and our warmest wishes go to her for a speedy recovery. She is currently a patient in the Campbelltown Hospital.
