“little other than an excited anticipation for the first day of school, predictions of what life will be like for this year’s crop of ‘Kindies’ are much more complicated.

A massive jump in 2010 Kindergarten numbers has seen an increase of more than 150 per cent on Kindergarten enrolments in Cootamundra schools from figures of just six years ago.

A total of 121 children are registered in local Kindergarten classes this year.

Social researchers predict that this year’s crop of ‘Gen Zedders’, children born between 1995 and 2009, will be the most technologically savvy generation ever – outstripping Gen Ys and Xs with ease.

They have been described as the 21st Century generation - the digital natives, the dot com kids.

Social Researcher Mark McCrindle describes Gen Zedders as “the most

financially endowed generation in history.”

This year’s ‘Kindies’ will be the most

formally educated, with most completing their homework via a laptops logged onto their class web page.

This trend in Cootamundra schools has continued across the region, with several small schools also experiencing a ‘Kindie’ influx.

Stockinbingal has experienced a boom with eight new Kindergarten students

starting at their school bringing enrolments to 36, while Wallendbeen has three Kindies.
