Cootamundra’s own Bega boy

04 Aug, 2010 08:12 AM
COOTAMUNDRA youngster James Collingridge is one of the faces of the new Bega Cheese lunchbox range advertising campaign currently airing on television.

James, the son of local couple Greg and Lisa of Back Brawlin Road, was invited by his uncle and aunty Norm and Narelle Pearce (nee Collingridge formerly of Cootamundra) who are dairy farmers from Bega to audition for the advertisement in May this year.

During the audition the Bega Cheese advertising agency asked James a number of questions including his favourite town, which because of his family living at Bega where he spends a lot of time during school holidays, James’ response was Bega closely followed by Cootamundra.

James was also asked ‘what he thought martians ate’; James gave the witty response of brains, which must have appealed to the agency as they invited James back to Bega to feature in the ad campaign.

James was one of 120 kids who auditioned at Bega or Sydney for the television commercial entitled ‘Where is Bega’ and was one of only a handful to be selected.

A total of four advertisements were recorded, including three short clips and one full length advertisement, with James featuring in three of the four.

The commercial features a number of adorable children who are asked the question of where is Bega, with the children replying that Bega can be found in their lunchbox, mouth, fridge, at the supermarket and in their schoolbag.

James ends the commercial saying ‘here is Bega’ while standing on a gate overlooking Bega.

James said he was very excited when he was told he would feature in the ad.

“I never thought I would be on television,” James said.

“There were lots of cameras and we had to say our lines lots of times until they were perfect,” James added.

The commercial has been airing on television for more than a week and has already featured on WIN, Ten and Prime.

James’ mum Lisa said during the filming of the campaign she was told the advertisement would be featured on all free to air television stations as well as pay TV, a number of billboards, Facebook and Youtube web sites.

Lisa said she is proud of her little star.

“When the advertisement, that we call “James’ ad”, comes on television we all get excited, it certainly stops the household,” she said.

Lisa said she has seen the advertisement appear in prime times including during the ad breaks of the Master Chef grand final, Home and Away and even morning television.

James will appear on television for the next 12 months which is the duration of the advertising campaign.
