Evening VIEW comes to a close

27 Jan, 2012 07:29 AM
AFTER 36 years Cootamundra Evening VIEW Club will hold its last hoorah on Thursday February 2.

The club has had to fold due a lack of members.

The final meeting will be a time to reflect on the Club’s achievements over the years and friendships formed.

A spokesperson for the club said getting members along to monthly meetings has become harder over the last few years and a decision was made in December last year to call it quits to a once very popular, well attended and community minded organisation.

Cootamundra Evening VIEW was formed in 1975. At times it had a membership of 60 women who met for dinner once a month and heard from a guest speaker who spoke on a subject of interest to the members. Many of the members will miss the companionship and interaction with others, the interesting talks and the fun times we had together.

The instigator behind the establishment of the Cootamundra Evening VIEW Club was Carmel Herald who was keen to have a club devoted to the interests and needs of women from the community in the workforce.

VIEW stands for Voice, Interests and Education of Women and the first Australian club was founded in Australia in 1960. One of its aims was to provide an outlet for women, where they could discuss and exchange ideas and secure lasting friendships.

The other aim of the club was to assist The Smith Family by providing funding support. This support would come from material goods such as clothing and stationery supplies. More recently the emphasis has moved to financial support of the Smith Family initiative called Learning For Life which provides support for improving the educational outcomes of children in

need.

The Club’s early meetings were held at various venues around the town. More recently members have had a wonderful meal at Country Cuisine and are very grateful for Helen James and her teams’ hospitality.

A special celebration get together for past and existing members will be held at Country Cuisine in February.

If you are a past member who would like to attend please contact Fay on 6942 4284 for more information.

The Cootamundra Day VIEW will continue to meet monthly.
