Glen Latham, his wife Kathy and children Ben (13) and Zara (5) travelled from Kettering, England to Australia last week digging up research on Glen’s family history.
The family arrived in Cootamundra on Monday, where they spent a number of hours digging through archives at the Cootamundra Library.
Glen called on the help of local historian Pat Caskie to help with the Latham/Callan connections in Cootamundra.
Pat found a historic calendar, which shows artist impressions by Peter Freeman of some of the former businesses in Cootamundra. One of the drawings was of the old Latham Store (where the Red Cross Shop is today), which was owned and operated by Glen’s grandfather Charles Latham in 1911.
Other Cootamundra connections to the Latham/Callan family are through the late Jim Callan a local solicitor from Callan and Luff is a distant relative to Glen Latham.
Pat also gave the Latham family a map of Cootamundra showing them where the Callan and Luff building is located and the former Latham Store.
The Latham’s were in town only for a night before heading to Melbourne.
