IN MEMORY OF A TOP MAN

03 Feb, 2012 06:16 AM
A convoy of vintage cars will head to Jugiong this weekend to take part in the annual Michael Livingstone Memorial Run and help celebrate the 32nd birthday of the Cootamundra Antique Motor Club.

An estimated 50 historic cars are expected to take part in the drive, including invited guests from various car clubs from around the region.

The Michael Livingstone Memorial Run has been incorporated into the Antique Motor Club’s birthday celebrations since 2007; the year after the former club’s founding president died.

Mr Livingstone was a very community-minded man who always had Cootamundra at heart.

He was the chairman of Cootamundra’s centenary celebrations and helped organise a mammoth car rally to come through Cootamundra. He was also the instigator of burying a time capsule in town.

He was Cootamundra’s first master of ceremonies for the community Australia Day Breakfast in the Park, which was initially held at the Cootamundra Post Office, before being moved to Albert Park and then Jubilee Park, where the event is run today.

During Mr Livingstone’s involvement with the Cootamundra Antique Motor Club he held a number of executive roles including secretary, editor, president and rally director.

While at Jugiong a special birthday cake will be enjoyed by members of the Antique Motor Club and invited guests.

Members of the late Mr Livingstone’s family will be in attendance including his wife Gwen, a current member of the Cootamundra Antique Motor Club, their children Sharon, Amanda and Patrick, their partners and seven grandchildren.

The birthday cake has been made annually by club member Robyn Absolon since the club’s inception in 1980.

Among the historic cars which will be taking part in the Michael Livingstone Memorial Run are a 1927 T Model Ford owned by John Collins and a 1928 A Model Ford owned by Mrs Livingstone.

These two cars are a significant part of the Cootamundra Antique Motor Club as they have been around since the club’s inception.

Local residents can view the historic cars parked along Gundagai Road on Sunday from 8.40am before their departure at 9am.

The convoy of cars will travel to Jugiong where a picnic lunch will be held at the Jugiong Recreation Park and the Swimming Pool.
