AFTER approximately six months without a Director of Nursing, the Cootamundra Nursing Home has a new director at the helm, Anne Dawes.
Mrs Dawes is from Young, and before taking on the Cootamundra role, worked in aged care in Cowra, in a similar position.
She began work in Cootamundra on Tuesday of this week, and said she is settling in well.
“It is a beautiful nursing home and I am looking forward to getting to know the residents, staff, volunteers and visitors,” Mrs Dawes said.
She has been a nurse since 1972, and worked in aged care for the past four years, bringing a wealth of experience to the Cootamundra Nursing Home.
“I have worked all over eastern Australia and managed an aged care facility in Cowra,
“Working in aged care is something I always wanted to do.”
Mrs Dawes said aged care is a very rewarding area of nursing.
“We are able to give a lot to the residents.”
She took on the role in Cootamundra primarily because it is closer to her home in Young than her former role in Cowra.
She is looking at Cootamundra as a long term post, hoping to be working at the Cootamundra Nursing Home for many years to come.
Deputy Director of Nursing Lexie O’Connor has been acting in the director role since former Director of Nursing Rhonda Briggs left, and with the appointment of Mrs Dawes will go back to her role as deputy.
“We are very happy Anne has been appointed to the role.
“We all welcome her here with open arms and look forward to the future,” Mrs O’Connor said.
