WHAT has more grunt than your usual country ute, is around 2.7 metres high and weighs just on five tonnes?
A monster truck, which for the first time at this year’s Cootamundra Show, will offer rides to show goers.
The mammoth monster truck, driven by retired man Paul Mahony (pictured left) of Port Macquarie, was invited to be part of the attractions at the Cootamundra Show during a ride at the recent Temora Show by a local resident.
Mr Mahony took up the offer as he was interested to visit Cootamundra for the first time.
Mr Mahony trucked in his monster truck, named The Red Chief Warrior arriving in Cootamundra yesterday.
The former builder, concrete truck owner/driver and former motorbike rider and dirt car driver wanted to build an attraction that people could enjoy and be part of, rather than watching from the sidelines.
This F250 truck complete with 351 ford windsor motor is the second monster truck Mr Mahony owns. He built the attraction himself over four months.
The other monster truck owned by Mr Mahony is a crush truck with a 454 chev motor that weighs 6.5 tonnes.
Mr Mahony said his monster truck has no set audience, with the truck appealing to kids as young as three years to elderly people up until 90 years of age, both males and females.
To demonstrate the scale of the monster, each of the four wheels measures 1.7 metres high, almost as tall as an average man.
Mr Mahony said in the three years he has had his monster trucks he has never come across anyone who has got off the truck unhappy.
Mr Mahony said the smiles on people’s faces are what make all the effort and money into the building of the truck worth while.
“The monster truck has been described as the best ride at any show,” Mr Mahony said.
Mr Mahony said he has also accepted an invitation to attend the upcoming Junee Show.
