LOCAL solicitor Ray Luff has set himself a personal goal and what some would label a considerable challenge when he saddles up for the first time this Sunday in the Sydney to the Gong cycle ride.
Ray, who will be accompanied by his son Stuart, now of Gosford, will join 10,000 other riders in the 90km scenic ride in support of people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Mr Luff, who has been a member of the Cootamundra Bicycle Users Group (BUG) for five years, said he has jumped on his bike more and more over the last few weeks in preparation for the ride.
The iconic 90 kilometre challenge will start early on Sunday at St Peter’s Church in Sydney, with the riders travelling through Sydney and along the coast via the Sea Cliff Bridge and concluding in Wollongong’s Stuart Park.
Mr Luff estimates the ride will take him anywhere between four to six hours to complete.
“It’s not a race, it’s a leisure ride through beautiful countryside for a worthy cause,” Mr Luff said.
Each year the MS Sydney to Gong ride is Australia’s largest fundraising initiative for people and their families living with MS.
This year organisers hope to raise $2.5 million.
Mr Luff is calling on the Cootamundra community to dig deep and provide donations for his participation in the ride.
Donations can be made at the Callan and Luff office in Bourke Street or on the Sydney to Gong website at www.gongride.org.au.donate and find Ray Luff.
