 A BRILLIANT KNOCK

A BRILLIANT KNOCK

06 Feb, 2012 07:24 AM
A MAGNIFICENT century by Scott Roberts has piloted his team Big O Burglars to an easy win over Ex-Services Young Guns at Clarke Oval on Saturday.

Roberts opened the innings and finished 102 not out as the Burglars finished 2/179 and then routed the Young Guns for just 53.

Roberts gave only two chances mid-way through his innings and he had to work hard to score runs on the heavy Clarke Oval outfield. Roberts struck only four fours in the classy knock, with plenty of running between the wickets during his innings resulting in three threes, 28 twos and 21 singles.

The representative captain was associated in an opening stand of 91 with Paddy Cameron, who made a well compiled 37. Cameron continually rotated the strike to his more senior partner as the Burglars took full toll on the Young Guns bowling attack.

The Young Guns had no answer to the spirited bowling attack of the Burglars especially the spinning duo of Heath Basham and Blake Guthrie. Basham’s off spinners saw him capture 3/7 from five overs while Guthrie finished with 2/13.

Earlier the quicks did the damage for the Burglars. Jimmy Mitchell captured 2/11 while Luke Levett captured 2/22 from his five overs.

Batting for the Young Guns, Ray James carried his bat and finished with 30 not out. James was the only player to make double figures for his side.

Finally another big highlight for the Burglars was the wicket keeping of Judd Kerrison. The Burglars gloveman gave a polished display behind the stumps featuring in six dismissals, three catches, two stumpings and a run out.

Meanwhile, Big O Blues have just about wrapped up the Merrin Cup minor premiership after an impressive 46 run win over Central Tigers at Mitchell Park on Saturday saw them cement top spot.

The win by the Blues sees them two games clear on the Merrin Cup ladder with just two matches to play.
