THEY made an ideal start to the annual Bradman Letter Challenge at Albert Park yesterday, however the Cootamundra under 16s side quickly realised it was not going to be easy.
The 33rd staging of the time-honoured match was played in near perfect conditions and in front of a large and appreciative crowd and in the early stages it looked as if the local lads were going to give their fans something to cheer about.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Bowral side were in trouble at 5-48, with Ryan Breese, Matt Berkrey and Josh Logue all grabbing key wickets.
However the visitors steadied the ship, with Max Moran and Tim Coenen combining for a 65-run sixth-wicket partnership before Bowral finished with 8-189 at the end of their 50 overs.
Due to changes in production deadlines (4pm) a full report on yesterday’s match has been held over until Friday’s edition of the Herald.
