T/20 semi to kick start big weekend

10 Feb, 2012 07:24 AM
LOCAL cricketers will be hoping the

weather forecasters have got it wrong, with a big weekend of matches scheduled at junior, senior and representative levels.

Kick starting the action will be tonight’s Twenty/20 semi final between Cougars and Custard Arms at Fisher Park.

Tomorrow a full round of junior and senior games will be played, while Sunday’s headline act will be the Stribley Shield final between Coota and Wagga at Albert Park.

At the same time the town’s three junior rep sides will be looking to qualify for their own final when they play preliminary finals games both in town and Wagga.

Tonight’s Twenty/20 clash will be an intriguing affair as competition surprise packets Cougars look to continue their giant killing run.

The majority of the Cougars side are not playing club cricket this summer, however jumped at the chance of competing in the shorter version of the game.

Chief selector Ashley Cooper, who has named a 13-man squad, predicts Ricky Evans, Nathan McGowan and Grant Miller as the men to fire tonight and possibly catapult them into the final against either Harden or Swing n Miss.

Custard Arms has a distinct Big O feel about it, with seven of the XI having ties with the club at

senior level, however it could be two of the ‘ring ins’ in James Dunk and Dave Garness that could spoil the party for Cougars.

While a finals berth is on the line, the match is expected to be played in good spirits, with the first ball to be bowled at 6pm.
