Strikers are all for one

13 Aug, 2010 08:22 AM
FOR just the third time this season, all four Cootamundra Strikers teams will be at home on the same day, with Mitchell Park set to host four games on Sunday.

Local fans will enjoy a full book of action, with the under 18s to kick start the day at 9am against Henwood Park, followed by the women’s match at 10.45am when the Strikers are due to face Tumut, the reserve grade match between the same two clubs at 12.45pm and finally the first grade battle between Coota and Wagga United at 2.45pm.

Club officials will be hoping the weather, that is predicted to clear for the weekend, will do just that allowing all four Coota teams to play in front of an appreciative home crowd.

The first grade match pits two teams that are both coming off last start losses, with the Strikers falling 3-0 to Tolland and United going goalless and conceding three against Lake Albert.

With just two games remaining after this weekend, the Strikers can’t accumulate enough points to make the top four, while United (currently in fourth) look destined to finish fourth and face an elimination game against Tolland in week one of the finals.

Some would say these circumstances could make Sunday’s match a non-event, however the Strikers will be keen to end what has been a frustrating year on a high by knocking the confidence out of their long-time rivals.

With all four teams at the same location, coach Shane Jervis won’t have the issue of juggling players from one venue to another as he strives to fill both senior teams while at the same time giving his under 18s side every opportunity to finish in the top two and a subsequent second chance come finals time.

Josh Purtell was the Strikers’ best in last week’s loss to Tolland and will again be looking for a strong showing.
