IT took her a couple of minutes to realise her feat, however Belinda Scott has become the first player of the new decade to record a hole-in-one at the Cootamundra Golf Course.
Belinda’s perfect shot came on the par-3 12th hole during Wednesday single stableford round and she was rightfully the toast of the club at the after game presentations.
The only downside to Belinda’s feat was the fact she didn’t see the ball disappear magically into the hole.
The 12th at Coota is the only one of the five par threes in which the cup is not visible from the tee.
Many a player has hit what they thought was a decent shot off the tee only to find it short, long or left when they get to the green.
Belinda’s weapon of choice was a 5-iron and she admitted she thought she struck it ‘pretty good’.
“I thought it should have been up there
somewhere, but when we climbed the rise up to the green we couldn’t see it,” a still excited Belinda said after her round.
It was then she and playing partners Julie Jenkins and Judy Finkle began scouring the surrounds
looking for the ball.
“I knew I didn’t get it that well that it could have slid off the back of the green and it couldn’t have been a crow stealing it as we hadn’t seen any all day, so I began hunting around the trees,” Belinda said.
In the meantime Judy played her second shot from just off the green, chipping up to just short of the pin, but even then she didn’t look in the cup as she wanted to continue the search.
“It was about then that I decided I might just check the hole and there it was,” Belinda said.
“Once I realised it had gone in I got very excited.”
The five stableford points helped Belinda to a final tally of 39 and amazingly she was able to keep her composure over the final holes of her round.
“I think I had 24 of those points on the back nine and 12 of them came in three holes,” she said.
A regular for around 10 years, Belinda said she had only come close to every golfer’s dream once before, however that was in a social daylight savings competition.
Wednesday’s ace meant even more to Belinda as it replicated a feat by her late father Alec Scott who played a major role in the club during his playing days.
“I’m sure he would have been looking down from upstairs with a smile on his face,” Belinda said.
