Arguably one of the most popular and well supported events on the national golfing calendar, the Holden Scramble sees teams of four battle it out for the right to qualify in a Regional Final.
From each of the Regional Finals the respective winners will book themselves a place in the highly sought after National Final to be held at one of Queensland’s most luxurious golf courses later in the year.
The first of the local rounds will be held on Sunday, April 1 and is a closed event meaning only members of the Cootamundra Golf Club are eligible to play.
The field will also be restricted to “48 teams, or 12 teams, which is the minimum number required to qualify one side for the Regional Final.
The open tournament will be held on Sunday, August 5 where visitors from a number of surrounding clubs as well as Canberra are expected to fight it out for another Regional Final berth.
With visiting teams having
dominated the past two Holden Scrambles, the committee opted for a closed event to ensure that at least one all-Coota team will have the chance to compete at the next level.
Players who take part in the closed event are most welcome to play in the open staging as well.
Both the closed and open events have the support and backing of Cootamundra Holden who have
followed in the footsteps of their
predecessors Jenkins Garage who began their association with the event from its inception.
As well as the lure of making it through to the next level, prizes will be allocated for the top five teams, with the crew from Cootamundra Holden throwing in some extra prizes.
This year’s events will be played under the same guidelines as the past few years being a four person ambrose in which each team can only contain two single figure markers and certain handicap restrictions apply.
The minimum team aggregate is 32 and the maximum is 112, however teams with a higher combined total can play on the day but will have their handicap derived (divided by eight) from 112.
The starting sheet, which is
expected to fill up quickly, is now available at the pro-shop and players are urged to list their teams as soon as possible to avoid the disappointment of missing out.
STOP PRESS in other golfing news, this weekend’s scheduled Caltex 4BBB has been pushed back to later in the year due to the fact the greens are still recovering from renovation work.
