GOLFERS competing in this weekend’s Caltex Fourball tournament at the Cootamundra course have extra
motivation to be ‘on target’ with local company South West Fuel Centre putting up a $2000 petrol prize for a hole-in-one on the par-3 ninth.
South West Fuel Centre and Caltex have been long serving supporters of the Cootamundra club and this weekend’s tournament continues that association.
“I think we have been sponsoring golf in town and this tournament in particular for more than 30 years,” South West Fuel Centre manager Rod Faulks said.
“We have enjoyed a great relationship with the golf club over the years and we look forward to the annual Caltex weekend as much as the players.”
While not a golfer himself, Rod is aware an ‘ace’ is every player’s dream and said his company was happy to throw in the added incentive of a hole-in-one prize.
“They tell me the ninth is a relatively tough hole and with the road on one side I’m sure it can be daunting for the players,” Rod said.
“We’d love to see as many players as
possible hit the green and give themselves a chance of taking home the prize.”
While the hole-in-one offer is sure to see all players taking extra time over their tee shot on the ninth, they are well advised to stay in the zone over the two days as once again the team at South West Fuel have supplied an excellent array prizes.
The overall 36-hole winners in the 4BBB stableford aggregate format will take home the major slice of the $2700 in prizes on offer, while trophies will also be awarded to second to fifth over two days as well as first to third on both Saturday and Sunday.
Nearest the pins are up for grabs on the par threes and if a hole-in-one is not recorded a bonus prize may be offered on the ninth for the closest shot over the two days.
Men’s secretary Steve Johnson said his committee is again thrilled to have South West Fuel and Caltex on board for another year.
“The Caltex is one of marquee
tournaments each year which attracts great support from both local and visiting golfers and we are all looking forward to another highly successful weekend,” Johnson said.
“To have a business continue its
sponsorship and support of a sporting code for more than three decades is remarkable and we truly value our association with Caltex and South West Fuel.
A preview to the weekend’s tournament, including the teams expected to do well, will appear in Friday’s Herald.
