 WEEKEND OF FUN AND FUNDRAISING

WEEKEND OF FUN AND FUNDRAISING

11 Nov, 2011 07:09 AM
LOCAL bowlers and golfers are once again urged to turn out to the Cootamundra Country Club for the Annual CanAssist Golf and Bowls event in two weekends time.

Since its inception in 2009 the event has raised $16,000 for the local charity, which aims to financially support district cancer patients with their out of pocket expenses and costs associated with travel for oncology, radiation and scan treatment, accommodation, care and vital prescriptions.

Fundraising coordinators for the event Bob Glanville and Matt Perry have been busy approaching business houses to support the event, with the response thus far overwhelmingly positive.

Attention now turns to numbers for the golf and bowls events.

Golf will be a two person ambrose played on the Saturday with a noon shotgun start.

Bowlers will have their chance to support the cause on the Sunday with a mixed triples event kicking off at 1pm.

Both are social days with players of all levels encouraged to attend and make the most of the weekend of fun and fundraising.

Ian Saunders has been the man behind the popular event since the beginning and said organisers are once again hoping for a successful event.

“We are encouraging hotels, clubs and business houses to put together a team and nominate now,” Mr Saunders said.

Golfers should contact the Pro Shop on 6942 2313 to put their names down and bowlers can contact the Country Club on 6942 1330 to nominate.

Both days are $30 per team with proceeds going to CanAssist.

Last year some 92 golfers hit the fairways on the Saturday with 99 bowlers gracing the greens on Sunday. Organisers are hoping for a similar, if not stronger response this year.

Over the course of the weekend, which is all about fun, sustenance will be provided in the form of a barbecue lunch by the ladies from CanAssist.

A raffle will be conducted in conjunction with the weekend with the major prize an absolute cracker - one lucky winner and their partner/friend will be off to the Walkabout Motel in Rutherglen for two nights with accommodation, breakfast and a half day winery tour in the motel’s Lincoln stretch limousine all included.

This major prize has been generously donated by the Walkabout Motel.

Get behind this great event and support Cootamundra and district cancer patients, while enjoying a great day.
