THE Coota Hotel caused the upset of the night
in last week’s round of A grade women’s touch matches.
Languishing on the bottom rung of the ladder without a win to their credit, the Coota Hotel girls finally found the form they are capable of and
posted a 4-2 win against Central Kitchens.
Renowned athlete Sarah Douglas used her natural speed to split the defence on two occasions, while Katie Annetts and Amanda Willoughby both
finished off smart team moves to increase the
advantage.
Paige Louttit and Maddi Duncombe also impressed for the winners.
Meanwhile Kitchens have slipped down to fourth place on 10 points with Hayley Mitchell and Angela Radnedge supplying their scoring plays.
It was Thompson’s Olympians who replaced the Kitchens in third, surviving another torrid encounter against long time sparring partners Tumble On.
Kellyann Connell, who was voted as the best on ground after another non-stop performance, opened the scoring for Thompson’s and was followed on the scoresheet by teenager Llily Hogan.
The experienced Emily Harris pegged one back for Tumble On and the Central-based appeared to be working their way into the match, however Annie Alexander halted the opposition’s momentum to again increase the lead to two.
Maddie Byrne, who continues to improve, signed off an entertaining affair with Tumble On’s second.
Other to catch the eye of the scorers were Mikayla Large and Casey Annetts for Thompson’s and Nadia Johnson and Tiana Grounds for Tumble On.
Central Rockets were able to keep a clean sheet for the third time in five outings, preventing Ex-Services Striking Hot from crossing the chalk while scoring six of their own.
Always a well drilled defensive outfit, Rockets were on song in the offensive stakes, with Erin Buttriss providing half the tally, Jo Harris opening her account for the season with two and Cath deBelin also getting on the board for the first time with a single.
The Strikers girls never gave up the ghost, with the pick of the pack being Jayde Boxsell, Georgia Bradbury and Abi Paterson.
For the second time in as many weeks, Pacific National Steam Trains were restricted to three tries, however again it proved enough as they restricted their rivals Southwest Fuel to just one.
Amelia Spencer pounced early for the Steam Trains while Renae and Kristen Glanville added to the total.
The Fuel girls were desperate to keep the damage to a minimum and leading the way in defence were Chris Lott, Belinda Holt and Jamie Caldwell, with Charlee McPherson getting on the board late to
narrow the final margin to 3-1.
