COUNTRY Club Mambos have given up top spot on the pool one ladder in this year’s men’s touch
football competition following a comprehensive 9-3 drubbing at the hands of Central Snakes last week.
Enjoying the view from the top
following four wins and a draw from their first five outings, Mambos have slipped back to third on 15 points as Snakes and Central Bolt now share the lead on 16.
The Country Club side was able to keep pace early with Patrick Cameron getting on level terms after James Minehan opened the scoring for Snakes, however it quickly became
3-1 after Mitch Kemp and Matt Forsyth added others.
Veteran Peter Louttit wove his way across to get Mambos within one, however Snakes out-scored their opponents six tries to one over the
second half of the match to see the final margin blow out.
Ashley Minehan finished the match with a treble, Luke Storrier grabbed two and Matt Berkrey also crossed for the winners, while Charlie Booth was the last Mambo to crack the defence.
Central Bolt maintained their
position at the top after accounting for Central Storm 5-1 in a high energy match on ground three.
Bolt have attacking options all over the park, as proved by the fact the tries were spread evenly between Steve Chant, Jamin Hall, Aaron Byrne, Haydn Cowled and Jesse Turner.
Storm were without a couple of key regulars and only had the bare six for the first 10 minutes, with Brad Lange getting them on the board with a smart finish.
Central Punters scored their second win in as many weeks after hanging on for a 3-2 win over Central Sinkers.
Joey Lewis was the first to cross, however the Punters’ defence was infiltrated from the re-start when Chris Hodgson breezed through.
New recruit John England proved his worth for Punters with successive tries to give his team a buffer of two and it was just as well he did as Hayden Bennett out-sprinted a gallant Mick Simons to the line late in the match to bring Sinkers back within one.
Others to impress were John Hogan, Peter Guthrie and Mitch Trinder for Punters and Jarrod Paterson, Steve Close and Dean Moston for Sinkers.
