JAMES Minehan underlined his importance to the Globe Hotel’s hopes of premiership glory in this year’s unisex touch competition, with a best-on-ground effort on Monday night.
Minehan dominated the scoring in a top of the table clash against Show Me The Money, finishing with a hat trick as the Globe maintained their
unbeaten run 4-2.
Tina Graham added the other try for the victors, while Nick Ashe and Tim Hayes kept their side
within striking distance although the edge in
experience told in the end.
Megan Gale and Luke Smith were strong for the Globe, as were Bevan Collins and Katie Annetts for Show Me The Money.
At the other end of the spectrum, Coota Herald and Central Salt n Pepper met in a clash that would see one of the two teams break their drought for the summer.
In the end it was the Herald crew that was
celebrating following a tense 6-5 win, set up in the main by a three-try effort from Tom Hobbs.
Joel Fuller picked the right time to crack it for his first two tries of the year, while Joe Bunworth also opened his account.
John Murray, who has been the most dangerous player for Salt n Pepper, was so again and finished with two ticks next to his name, the scoring
completed by Jodie Heggaton, Kiera White and Dave Cockram.
Family Tropics went on the rampage against Hy Fashion, racing in 12 tries and conceding just one.
New recruit Jordy Ward wasted no time in getting in on the action, finishing with a trio of tries, a feat matched by Andrew Bucknell, while Rochelle
Boyd deserved her two touchdowns after a strong showing.
Nick Fuller also grabbed two, while Tom and Ben Warner completed the rout, leaving Dean Moston as the lone scorer for Hy Fashion.
The final match in the pool saw Adam McPhail dominate proceedings as Centrally Nailed just eclipsed Envy 6-4.
McPhail responded to some gentle sledging in the Herald that day with a five-try performance to be the logical choice for best-on-ground.
Tom Turnbull also crossed for Nailed, while Juliann Tanks and Claire Berkrey were a constant threat.
Alex Jones threw his hat into the ring with another multiple collect for Envy, this time three, while Dave Garness got the other.
