Three became one

16 Dec, 2011 06:18 AM
HEADING into Monday night’s round of unisex touch matches, three teams in pool two boasted the perfect record - by the end of the night there was only one.

Central Something now stand alone at the top of the ladder on 15 points after knocking off fellow contenders Coota Hotel 6-3 in what was easily the best match of the night.

It was a particularly pleasing win for Grant Boyd, one of five Central Something players to cross the line, as his sister Alicia and brother-in-law Steve Willoughby play for the Coota Hotel, however both Alicia and ‘Slaps’ did match Boyd’s try scoring effort.

Jenna Collingridge was the pick for the winners, finishing off two good movements to top the try scoring, while Steve Chant, Luke Storrier and Kristen Glanville joined Boyd with singles.

Matt Forsyth provided the other scoring play of the night for Coota Hotel, Marie Montgomery was denied in a photo finish, while Shona Lawson and Nathan Corby played well.

Young Guns were forced to split the points with Berkrey Painting three-all, thus giving up their joint occupancy of the top rung of the ladder.

At one stage the Painters led 3-1 after James Smith bagged two tries and Matt Berkrey one, however late efforts to Bradley Lange and Dylan McDermott saw Young Guns steal a draw after Jarryd Cook had crossed earlier.

On the female contingent the picks were Paige Louttit and Lauren Taylor for Berkrey and Sarah Walsh and Ashleigh Willoughby for Young

Guns.

Fallon’s Excavations broke through for their first win of the season,

downing Hunt and McTavish 6-4.

The scoresheet was only partially filled out, however it appears Chris Hodgson, Joel Bradbury and Liam Frilay gave Fallon’s a handy 3-0 advantage before their opponents worked their way back into the

contest.

Scott Meale grabbed two and Darren Connell and Patrick Cameron one each, however second efforts to both Bradbury and Hodgson saw them celebrating at the siren.

Fallon’s victory sees Central Dynamite as the only winless side in the pool after five rounds, their

latest conquerors being Central Scrubchooks who posted six tries to four.

Ben Smith provided exactly half his team’s total with a hat trick, while brother Damien, Mick Simons and Rick Evans all managed one.

Belinda and Aaron Walker opened their accounts for Dynamite and

others to Josh Bradford and Ben Brown saw the final margin at two.

Draw for Monday

6pm Gr 3 Central Dynamite v Fallon’s excavation (Scrubchooks), Gr 4 Hunt and McTavish v Berkrey Painting (Young Guns)

6.30pm Gr 3 Central Scrubchooks v Central Something (Dynamite), Gr 4 Young Guns v Coota Hotel (Hunt and McTavish)
