Guthrie girls do well at regionals while others enjoy Quandialla

LOCAL swimmers Abbey and Zoe Guthrie travelled to Canberra to compete in the NSW Country Regional Meet recently.

Abbey swam really well winning all of her heats and recording a PB in all of her six events.

The best of her results was a 26 second PB in the 200 metres individual medley which she finished in a time of 3 minutes 17.41 seconds.

Zoe also did well in her events, achieving a PB in the 50 metres freestyle.

Meanwhile, a number of Cootamundra swimmers recently travelled to Quandialla to contest the annual carnival. This is always a great carnival for both swimmers and parents.

A number of swimmers posted personal best (PB) times in what was a series of outstanding swims by the Coota contingent.

Representing the local area were Paige Hinds (11), Mikayla Johnston (13), Ellisha Large (13), Cassi Parkinson (17), Kayla Pearce (7), Tahlia Pearce (6), Emily Webb (12) and Michaela Webb (10).

Paige placed second or third in each of her six events and achieved PB times in four of those events, including a 13 second PB in the 100 metres freestyle. Paige finished this race in a time of 1 minute 24.71 seconds.

Mikayla showed her diversity competing in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly events and achieving great times. She had a two second PB in the 100 metres freestyle finishing in 1 minute 21.42 seconds to finish fourth, two places behind her teammate Paige.

Ellisha achieved PBs in five of her six events, with her greatest PB coming in the 100 metres freestlye when she shaved three seconds off her previous best time.

Cassi finished second or third in each of her four events, posting times of 1 minute 31.78 seconds in the 100 metres freestyle to finish third, 42.47 seconds in the 50 metres freestyle to finish third, 54.66 seconds in the 50 metres backstroke to finish second and 55.26 seconds in the 50 metres breaststroke to finish third.

Kayla and Tahlia Pearce both did will in their beginner’s events and are sure to be ones to look out for in the future.

Kayla finished first in the 25 metres backstroke learners final in a time of 36.92 seconds while Tahlia topped the field in the 25 metres learners noodle final in a time of 1 minute 2.97 seconds as well as the learners kickboard final in a time of 51.47

seconds.

Emily had a great carnival achieving one second PBs in the 50 metres freestyle and breaststroke finals, while Michaela recorded PBs in five or her six events, including a seven second PB in the 100 metres freestyle to finish third in a time of 1 minute 33.77 seconds.
