THE hectic schedule of local swimmer Holly Meadows just got busier after she produced a couple of excellent results at this year’s Speedo NSW State Age Championships held in Sydney last week.
Having qualified for five events at her fifth appearance at the State
carnival, Holly produced three impressive personal bests, one of which has seen her make the cut for the NSW Open meet early next month.
The 14-year-old sliced more than three seconds off her previous best time in the 200m backstroke to finish 16th overall in a time of 2.33.31 and, while she was disappointed in not making the final, Holly was thrilled when advised her time will see invited back to the Olympic pool at Homebush for the NSW Open on February 10.
The big surprise at last week’s State Age came in the taxing 200m
butterfly, four laps of the pool in a stroke most mere mortals would struggle to punch out one.
Having not contested the event at long course level for more than 12 months, Holly stopped the clock in a tick over 2.38.00 minutes, again
taking a sizeable chunk out of her
previous personal best.
Her third PB was in the 100m
backstroke where she trimmed .23 of a second off her time.
Holly also contested the 50m freestyle and 200 individual medley, just missing a PB in the one-lap dash.
The season doesn’t slow down for Holly, who now trains out of Wagga, with eight swims at this weekend’s NSW Country Regionals in Canberra, her one off event at the NSW Open on February 10 and the NSW Country Championships over the weekend of February 25 and 26 where she has qualified for every event in her age group, with her final program to be decided by her coach.
