IT was a makeshift team put together at the eleventh hour, however Sunday’s Holden Scramble belonged to Bruce Carberry, Des Rowe, Scott Millar and Ric Becquet.

Des and Scott had their names down to play early last week while Ric jumped on board on Friday and Bruce was a Saturday starter.
Despite the last minute formation the group had a great day on the Cootamundra Golf Course.
It wasn’t until all of the teams had come back into the clubhouse and the cards read that Bruce, Des, Scott and Ric knew they were winners.
With two of the better teams left to come in from the course, Bruce said he was sure they would score lower and his team would maybe finish third.
“They (the teams left out there) were quality teams so I thought we would come in third which we would have been really happy with,” Bruce said.
It didn’t pan out this way and all were thrilled with the win.
A combined handicap of 57 (Bruce 7, Scott 12, Des 13 and Ric 25) worked in favour of the team as the final nett score was calculated.
They finished with nine under, 62 off the stick and when their handicap was deducted they finished three quarters of a shot ahead of their nearest rival.
As they would have hoped the winning quartet birdied all four par 5s, while they also birdied the par 3 12th and fifth and further birdies on 18, 2 and 8 completed their winning round.
This will be the first time at the Holden Scramble regional final for Des and Ric, however Scott and Bruce have both played before – Scott in 1996 and Bruce around five years ago.
“I never thought I’d win anything like this, I’m really looking forward to the next round,” Ric said.
Anything can happen on the day and the team are confident of a good showing.
“It is all about sinking our putts, if we can do that right we’ll be on our way,” Scott said.
The regional final will be played in Canberra in October at a course yet to be determined and from there the team can qualify for the national final.
