Trish has always enjoyed quilting and says when she begins an original piece she is never quite sure what she will do with it – undertaking the process for the love of quilting.
As she designed and began work on this particular quilt she said she was immediately drawn to the idea of donating it to Can Assist as a raffle prize.
“I knew once it was complete what I had to do with it,” Trish said.
Her husband Colin was one of the many dozens of local residents who have been so generously assisted by the organisation during cancer diagnosis and treatment.
“We received a lot of help from Can Assist 18 months ago and this is something small we can do to pay them back a little,” Trish said.
The Stewarts had moved to Cootamundra from Gerringong about 10 years ago and were overwhelmed by the support of the community when Colin was diagnosed with cancer.
“When you are not used to accepting help people like Can Assist make the world of difference,” Trish said.
The quilt has been entered on the local show circuit with Trish taking out first prize at the Harden Show with it and second prize at the Cootamundra Show.
Designated a ‘Mothers’ Day Raffle’ the beautiful quilt is tailor-made to suit mums of all ages.
Tickets are already on sale for the quilt raffle with anyone wanting to purchase tickets for their chance to win encouraged to pop into CW Jewellers. Alternatively Can Assist volunteers will be selling raffle tickets in the main street precinct so keep an eye out for them.
