Rose View Doreen is four and a half years old and her calf was born last October.
The same cow won Reserve Champion as a heifer last year and David was thrilled she was able to back up for the Supreme Champion title this year, saying it is great recognition for the stud.
Three years ago Rose View Doreen was named Supreme Champion at the Canberra Show and at the most recent show in the state’s capital she took out Senior Champion.
With such a strong pedigree she is a jewel in the crown of the Rose View breeding program and is in calf again with the Manwarings hoping for similar success from her next calf.
There were nine animals and their offspring in the cow and calf class won by Rose View Doreen making her win commendable in the strong competition.
Judges were on the lookout for everything from structure to good udders to interaction with the calf from the mother.
David is hopeful he and Julie will be able to take the calf pictured back to the Sydney Royal next year as a heifer.
It is no walk in the park showing cattle in Sydney with the Manwarings, and indeed all breeders, sleeping with the cattle and up at 5am tending to the needs of the day, however David said there is no substitute for the promotion it gives the stud name.
He said it is also a good opportunity to compare his stock with cattle from other areas.
Attention for the Rose View stud is now turning to the Wodonga Bull Sale next month where David and Julie hope to sell three of their bulls including ‘Rose View Hangover’ another award winning animal belonging to the local stud.
The success of their stud in Sydney can only help the bottom line when it comes time for the bulls to go under the hammer.
