THE ground may have been muddy but there was no dampening the spirits of those who attended the annual B and S Ball on Saturday night.

Sponsored by South West Fuel and the Cootamundra Strikers, revellers began arriving at the venue on Friday with the showground awash with utes and trailers by the time the ball arrived.
There was a distinct local presence on the night with members of the Cootamundra strikers on drinks duty throughout the event.
Club president James Philpott said the evening was enjoyed by all those who came along.
“The group that we did have was fantastic,” he said.
“We were talking to a lot of people before the event and their seemed to be a lot from the central west as well as Canberra. The crowd was very cooperative which is what you want to see.”
Entertainment was provided by The Lumpy Underdacks from Goulburn who played a mix of classic rock and Australian favourites.
This year saw the introduction of a ‘best ute’ prize with a vehicle from Berridale picking up the $100 fuel voucher.
Approximately 185 people brought tickets for the event which was held at the show grounds.
While attendance was well down on what they had anticipated, Philpott is optimistic the club will be able to recuperate their losses from the event, indicating their may be a few changes to the way the club approaches the ball next year.
“Obviously it is a shame that we didn’t get as many people as we would have liked and we will get together as a club in the aftermath and see what we can do to bring in more people in for next year’s event,” he said.
“We are lucky in the sense that we have a great major sponsor in the form of the Ex Services Club who provides a lot of assistance in the day to day running of the Strikers.”
The Cootamundra Strikers have settled into a new home this season with the side now playing at O’Connor Park.
Philpott said the club is raising money to go towards further maintenance of ground.
“We will be holding a few raffles throughout the year which we w
ill probably fast track in order to raise funds for the ground,” he said.
“There are still a few bits and pieces to finish off. It is a great playing surface and we would like to keep it that way.”
