A state election will be held on March 28 next year (always the last Saturday in March every four years).
Last September a boundary change to NSW electorates saw the current seat of Burrinjuck abolished a new seat gazetted for the local area bearing the same name as our town.
The change in electoral boundaries moved the local government areas of Upper Lachlan, Boorowa and Yass Valley to the new electoral district of Goulburn.
The electoral district of Murrumbidgee is to be abolished, along with Burrinjuck, with the western boundary of the renamed Cootamundra district moving to incorporate the local government areas of Bland, Junee, Coolamon and Narrandera.
Essentially the new seat of Cootamundra includes many towns to the west of the current Burrinjuck electorate.
One country seat was lost in the redistribution of electoral boundaries.
Ms Hodgkinson caused contention earlier this year when it was reported she would run for the seat of Goulburn rather than Cootamundra as it is within the Goulburn electorate she currently lives.
Her pre-selection to run for Cootamundra cements any questions regarding her future.
It was reported in another Fairfax paper earlier this week that if elected Ms Hodgkinson would consider moving her family into the new electorate in line with the location of her new office.
She has always lived in Yass, which fell into the Burrinjuck seat, until recently when she moved to the Southern Highlands, part of the new seat of Goulburn.
As the current Minister for Primary Industries, Ms Hodgkinson sees many areas of the state and is involved in many rural and regional issues.
Given the length of time out from the election, it is expected campaigning will not start for a number of months.
