MAYOR Jim Slattery was on hand last week to welcome a new family to town.
Hailing from Gosford, Kylie Young has re-located to Cootamundra with her husband David and their two sons.
She takes on the customer attendant role at the railway station, which gives her responsibility over everything from maintenance at the station to luggage handling to making bookings.
Having been in town for just over a fortnight, Kylie said the family is loving it.
“A change is as good as a holiday!” she said.
“We loved the idea of coming out to the country,” she added.
With her sons, Marcus and Chevy, in year eight and year six respectively at Sacred Heart Central School, Kylie said one of the greatest things she has noticed about Cootamundra is the accessibility of activities for the kids.
“Everything is walking distance for them, we’re not travelling all over the countryside and there is so much for them to be involved in,” Kylie said.
As the boys settle into school, Kylie, David and the boys are already looking at sports and extracurricular activities for Marcus and Chevy to be involved in.
“We made a great decision coming here,” Kylie said.
Cr Slattery presented Kylie with a ‘welcome pack’ featuring information on the various services, businesses and organisations in town.
These packs are coordinated by the Cootamundra Development Corporation.
Picnic Races AGM
A DATE has been set for the 2015 Cootamundra Picnic Races with Racing NSW allocating Saturday, April 4 for the occasion.
This coincides with the Easter long weekend so will be a great time to celebrate with family back home for Easter.
Before the fun can begin though there is plenty of behind the scenes work to take place to ensure the smooth running of the day.
This is done by a small band of volunteers who form the Picnic Races committee.
New members are always welcome & we would encourage anyone interested to contact a current committee member to find out more.
The Picnic Races Annual General Meeting will take place next Wednesday, July 16 in the Stephen Ward Rooms at 6.30pm.
New members are welcome to come along and share their ideas & be part of making this event happen for our town.
Condolences
POPULAR local lady and resident of the Southern Cross Care apartments Betty Wilde was farewelled by family and friends during a special service held at the Catholic Church last Thursday.
Betty passed away on June 29. She is the beloved mother and mother-in-law to Rhonda and Colin Cropper (Cootamundra), Russel and Virginia Wilde (Manilla) and Paul and Diane Wilde (Cootamundra) and the much adored grandmother to her 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Betty will always be remembered and never forgotten. Betty’s family would like to thank everyone for their love, support, and prayers during this time.
A special occasion
THE Cootamundra Hospital Auxiliary will celebrate eight decades of giving tomorrow with a luncheon at the Country Club from noon.
These angels of our community have given so much to ensure staff and patients at the local hospital have not only the necessities but many of the ‘extras’ too.
It is often said, but cannot be reiterated enough, one of the greatest things about purchases made by the Hospital Auxiliary is they must stay in Cootamundra.
The health service cannot reallocate items elsewhere meaning it is locals who benefit from the money raised for locals from local residents.
Happy 80 years to all of the Cootamundra Hospital Auxiliary members, both past and present.
This is a group always looking for fresh ideas and people to lend a hand so if you have time to be part of another 80 years of giving please contact a current member.

TODAY’S front page is all about the community effort which saw $460,000 raised for the Nursing Home’s mandatory internal sprinkler system.
We, at the paper, have been present for many of the events which have contributed to building this total dollar by dollar and the whole town should be congratulated.
What an amazing effort and one indicative of the spirit to help out that defines the best parts of our community.
Well done to every individual, community group, business and sporting organisation which jumped on board to get this money raised.
