How nice for Mrs June Ward, of Adina Court, to have her daughter Kerry Sproull visiting. Kerry hails from Queenstown, New Zealand, and she is so enjoying her week here in town catching up with family and friends.
Kerry has particularly enjoyed attending our indoor heated pool and water aerobics, and is duly impressed with this addition to Cootamundra’s facilities.
I LIKE THIS!
Now, I like this snippet given to me by a ‘long time’ devotee of Rugby League (in light of the recently held State of Origin matches) taken from The Phantom Column of Friday, May 25, 1989, -
“From all the expert talk about town in relation to the State of Origin debacle, the Phantom has been able to choose a Cootamundra XIII which would win the next game, because they all know what went wrong and know what SHOULD happen.
Front row David Caskie, Mick Howse: hooker Bob Hart: second row Allan John ‘Goose’ Campbell, Dennis Loasby: lock Tom Hoffman; half Barry Crick; five eighth Slaps Willoughby; centres Ned Miller, Ted Campbell; wingers Larry Gehrig, Bernie ‘Sandshoes’ Donoghue; fullback Roy Tyrell;
RESERVES Billy Wiles, Tony Barrett, Alan Crowe, Mick McLaren. GO TEAM!”
DO YOU REMEMBER?
Thank you to those kind people who have been in touch to contribute to the Around Cootamundra page.
Now this story needs to be ‘clarified’ by those who REMEMBER -
It goes something like this ‘Well known local gentlemen Jim French, from Rotary, Col Herald, from Lions and Barry McGinnity, from Apex, were seen riding elephants down Parker Street’ -
Can anyone tell us the year this took place?
CHESS FOR BEGINNERS
Have you ever wanted to learn to play chess, but have not had the opportunity? Well, On Tuesday last John Dorczak commenced teaching “Chess for Beginners.” John has been teaching chess classes for many years, especially to children at EA Southee school, and comes with a wealth of knowledge and great patience with learners. This is a great opportunity for would-be chess players to learn this fascinating game.
The time 2pm to 4pm each Tuesday afternoon and ALL are most welcome to come along - the venue the Stephen Ward Rooms.
EDUCATION FUND DINNER
The annual Cootamundra and District Country Education Fund Dinner is set to take place this evening at The White Ibis.
Always a most successful event on our calendar, the guest speaker this year is none other than former local man Craig Thorburn, now of Melbourne.
