The Blues have been in cruise control over the past few weeks winning matches without being tested but will face a team desperate to break into the top 5, on their home ground and with a strong likelihood of their team being bolstered for the match.
The Blues will hope to be at full strength with Adrian Edwards expected to return for the match and as of training on Tuesday night had very few concerns with injuries. Blues Coach Luke Webb failed to finish last Saturday’s match against Belconnen with what looked to be a minor leg problem but trained strongly and is a certain starter.
The Sea Hawks disposed of Gungahlin last start to the tune of 33 points with danger forward Dean Tuan kicking 9 of their 13 goals and he will have to be closely watched this Saturday. Perhaps of concern to the home side could be the small spread of goalkickers last weekend with only four players kicking majors and if the Blues can hold Tuan it could go a long way to deciding the result.
The Blues had three major targets up forward last weekend in Sandy Maskell-Knight, Tim Hannon and Andrew Lieschie. Add Chris Drum, Luke Webb and Ryan Miller to the forward mix and the Blues look more than capable of kicking a winning score.
The Blues defence has stood tall all year however the game will no doubt be decided in midfield with a number of players certain to be rotated in an effort to at least break even and make the most of the sides undoubted forward strength.
Many of the Blues players are travelling to the coast on Friday in an effort to be well prepared for the match with a couple of possible scenarios likely from the result of the match. A win to the Blues will probably see them retain top position and a win the Sea Hawks is almost certain to see them take fifth spot and the Blues would drop to second.
The match is at Hanging Rock Oval and will start at 2pm.
