With two clubs and a strong reputation at district level, bowls in Cootamundra has a decorated history which has incorporated a number of trophies.
Such was the topic of discussion at the Stephen Ward Rooms on Wednesday afternoon as Country Club bowls president Don Manwaring gave a talk on the ‘History of Bowls in Cootamundra’.
Attended by members of the U3A, the talk focused on the growth of the sport within town throughout the last century.
Mr Manwaring said the first home of bowls within the town was a venue where sport is still played today.
“The first bowls club began playing at Albert Park back in 1899,” he said.
“It was a different sort of surface back then but that is where it all started.”
It follows on from the group’s Com and Try bowl sessions which were due to start at the Country Club last Thursday but had to be postponed due to bad weather.
