Each August, in line with the traditional flowering of wattle in the local district, our town and region celebrates Wattle Time.
The announcement of Miss Wattle this Friday, August 1, kicks things off.
A Cootamundra Herald initiative, dating back to 1963, Miss Wattle is given the honour of representing the district at various events during Wattle Time.
Nominations have been strong for Miss Wattle with the quality of nominees testament to the community involvement of young ladies in our shire.
The Wattle Time Art Show has been moved back a week this year from its usual date the first weekend of August.
Opening night of the Art Show, hosted by the Cootamundra branch of Can Assist, will be on Friday, August 8 with the show continuing all weekend, Saturday and Sunday, August 9 and 10.
The Art Show is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Can Assist and serves as a wonderful weekend for local and visiting artists.
This year marks the 35th Wattle Time Art Show and the third hosted by the local branch of Can Assist, which works to help local patients affected by cancer
The show will be opened by Neil Langford with the idea to keep things local in honour of the 35th birthday of the show - Neil being the voice of local radio station 2LF.
The champagne opening of the Art Show will take place from 7pm with an invitation extended to the whole community at $15 a head.
The Art Show will then be open from 10am until 4pm on the Saturday and 10am until 3pm on the Sunday.
This year is the 78th annual Anglican Church Daffodil Tea. Held in the Town Hall from 11am, there will be stalls, entertainment and a light lunch at a cost of $12 per person. All are welcome.
The Wattle Time Debutante Ball continues the festivities of the month set down for Saturday, August 23.
Debutantes and their partners will light up the Town Hall as the guests of honour at this event which has only sat on Cootamundra’s Wattle Time calendar in recent years.
The Cootamundra Development Corporation (CDC) will host their Wattle Time festivities on Saturday, August 30 with the street parade and Wattle Time Fair.
The street parade is always a popular event in town and will make its way down Parker Street from 12noon.
It is not too late to register a float in the street parade with any sporting or community groups interested encouraged to contact the CDC on 6942 1400.
From the parade, float participants and the community are invited around to Albert Park for the fair. The fair will be set up from 9am until 4pm.
It will be a great day for the whole family showcasing Cootamundra and the surrounding region.
The fair will feature market stalls, food courts, outdoor entertainment throughout the day, kids activities and rides while incorporating all things garden, home, lifestyle and leisure.
Market stalls are still being sought please contact the CDC on 6942 1400 or via email at cdcinfo@cootamundra.com.
On the same day, Saturday, August 30, the Cootamundra Cycle Club will host their Cootamundra Classic Cycle Race.
One of the biggest cycle races on the calendar of the local cycle club, the Coota Classic always draws a crowd of riders.
