On Monday a group of avid knitters gathered at the Cootamundra Library to assist those at risk of hypothermia.
The group meet on a monthly basis and knit for ‘Wrap With Love’ an international humanitarian charity, founded by an Australian in 1992.
The organisation’s website states that “cold humanity is our concern, people caring about other people.”
Wrap With Love has sent “more than 323,000 wraps to people in over 75 countries, including Australia, with the help of our hardworking and generous volunteers.”
Jenny Cash is the Cootamundra area contact for Wrap with Love.
She knits, coordinates monthly ‘Knit Ins’ at the library, collects ‘wraps’ from Harden, Young and Junee, and convoys these locally-produced wraps to the depot in Wagga Wagga.
From there, the wraps are sent to a warehouse in Alexandria where they are packed and distributed worldwide.
Mrs Cash has been knitting for Wrap With Love since 1994 and says the Cootamundra group formed as a result of local interest in the cause.
Knit-Ins are held on the fourth Monday of each month, and all are welcome to attend.
