The men and their entourage of supporters who drove to Wagga Wagga for the match were clearly devastated by the result.
Club president, James Philpott, watched the game from the sideline.
“We didn’t take enough shots on goals, and that was the difference between winning and drawing the game.”
“The boys were unlucky; Lake Albert scored off their only shot on goals and in the lead up to the goal we thought we had them offside”
He says it was a tough game to watch, “The game didn’t flow very well, there were a lot of penalties and late tackles.”
It was also a very significant match for the Strikers.
“The team is placed fifth on the ladder, and they needed a win to compete for the ‘cup.’”
Soon the competition will be divided into two tournaments; the four teams on the top of the ladder will compete for the ‘cup’ and the remaining five teams will compete for the ‘plate.’
“We always had ambition to get into the cup,” Philpott said.
“At least we’ll be in with a good chance to win the plate.”
