“It’s been a good year, really successful compared to the last few years,” Armstrong said.
Captain of the men’s first grade team and teammate, Mick Simons, played with Armstrong on Sunday, and took part in the guard of honour.
According to Simons, Armstrong is a respected figure in the club.
“He’s well-respected among the players, and respect is something that you can’t get easily; you’ve got to earn it.”
Authority is one of the finest attributes a defender can bring to a soccer team; an attribute possessed by Armstrong.
“His experience shows,” Simons said. “He doesn’t panic on the ball which is a good thing in defence.”
Simons also paid tribute to Armstrong’s work rate.
“He’s a toiler, he might not be the quickest man on the field but he’ll work hard to get to the ball,” Simons said.
This milestone confirms Armstrong’s commitment to the club.
“Steve’s seniority is a credit to himself,” he said.
“He’s a true gentleman and he gives it his all; it’s a pleasure to have him on our side.”
