Classic and antique vehicles led the parade of all ages who embraced the warm weather and jovial spirit of the day.
“What a fantastic weekend in Cootamundra,” Cootamundra’s mayor, Jim Slattery, said, who was on hand to cut the Wattle Time cake with 2014 Miss Wattle Ellen Bailey.
Cr Slattery said the success of the day was a tribute to the hard work of the Cootamundra Development Corporation (CDC) and congratulated all involved.
The CDC instituted the Wattle Time fair in Albert Park last year, and despite being only in its second year the fair saw 5000 people come through the gates on Saturday.
This figure is a 20% growth on numbers from 2013; a good sign for the future of the fair and local business in Cootamundra.
“It was just a great day, it had a really full feel to it,” CDC chairman, John Stephens, said.
“Perfect weather, everyone had a good time; it’s going to be hard to beat.”
Visitors came from around the Riverina, including Trevor Payne and his family from Young, who were impressed at the size of the fair and the variety of stalls.
“This is our first time but we’ll be coming back every year now,” he said.
The weekend proved a lovely transition to spring and residents will certainly be hoping for more of the same conditions in the coming months, with a little bit of rain thrown in for the farmers.
