270 members and guests attended the Gala AFL Canberra presentation night, which was as expected very professionally run.

Despite missing the first five matches due to the carryover suspension from last year’s Farrer League grand final Webb finished seven votes clear of second place-getter.

Webb received 21 votes in 12 matches, Yass footballer Ben Serafin received 14 votes and another Yass footballer Paul Wasley finished in third on 12 votes. 

Webb says he was surprised to win, “Bash [Blues president Todd Basham] thought I’d be in with a chance, and I thought I might have half a chance, but to be honest I hadn’t given it any thought.” 

His focus remains on the upcoming grand final against Yass on Saturday.

“I’d trade the title of best and fairest  for a win this weekend in a heartbeat.”

The win for Webb follows on from Dylan McDermott’s league medal win last season.

The award capped off a great night for the Blues with Sandy Maskell Knight taking the league’s goal kicking award with 72 goals, the most of any player in the other three AFL Canberra competitions.

Sandy Maskell Knight has become the fourth Blues footballer to win the league goal-kicking award since the club commenced playing in AFL Canberra in 2004

Chris Dawe was the league’s leading goal kicker in 2005 booting 82 goals while in 2006 Dawe booted 74 goals.

In 2011, a former Culcairn junior Andrew Hoffman bagged 86 goals.

Blues backman Phil Bird had a great start to the season winning best on ground in the opening two matches at Clarke Oval against Belconnen and South Coast 

Stephen Chant received best on ground votes against Goulburn when the Blues thumped the Swans by 128 points.

The win by Luke Webb was the third time that a Blues player has been awarded the best and fairest in AFL Canberra.

Rated one of the best footballers to play for the Blues in the last decade James Quarmby won the league best and fairest in 2006, while at 17 years, Dylan McDermott was one of the youngest the recipients of this award last year.
