At a school assembly principal Neil Reaper honoured students for completing their secondary education and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence.
Year advisor Sandra Green urged the echelon to aim high, to love what they do and do what they love, and to be proud of their accomplishments.
“I’m so proud of them; they’re an upstanding group of young men and women, they’re going to be successful in whatever they choose to do,” she said.
The door to Coota High is always open.
The year 12 students had mixed emotions as they reflected on their education; a significant part of life over the past 13 years.
Students, their teachers, relatives and friends all converged on the lawn after assembly.
Each student had a unique perspective on what graduation means to them.
Kiera White has enrolled in a TAFE course which starts in November, and is looking forward to beginning a career in nursing.
“I can’t wait to enter the workforce and I’m hoping to do a bit of travel as well,” Kiera said.
Kiera’s mum and dad Debbie and Greg White couldn’t be more proud of their daughter and will support her through the transition to the workforce in the upcoming years.
“We’re so proud of Kiera, she’s got so much to look forward to,” Greg said.
School captain Danyelle Bailey and vice captain Ariah Holmes spent half an hour in the quadrangle among friends including Tegan Kelly, Erin Boxsell and Melissa Smith before they returned to the assembly hall and tidied up.
This peer group took it upon themselves to clean the hall when it would have been perfectly acceptable to say their goodbyes and go their separate ways.
Students like these are exemplars of Cootamundra High’s core values, respect, responsibility and excellence, well equipped for challenges that may face them in the years to come.
While class is officially out there’s little rest for this year group as many prepare to sit the Higher School Certificate examinations.
