EVERY farmer in the district was hoping this week’s predicted 20mm would come and while the rain didn’t quite meet expectation, most areas getting around the 10mm mark, the common theme is that it was still welcome.

A dry September has put a bit of stress on crops, however the district is still heading for a good harvest.
In Stockinbingal one farmer tipped nine mm out of his gauge at lunchtime yesterday. He reported his crops are looking the best they have in 12-14 years, however it’s still too soon to be too optimistic with follow-up rain needed.
Towards Wallendbeen, they had 10mm to midday yesterday, and while they were hoping for more it was reported there is still moisture in the soil profile to get them through. More rain is definitely needed to finish canola and wheat crops off and ensure good yields.
In town, only 4mm was received to 9am yesterday with more rain falling around lunchtime.
Across the district many farmers sowed early on the back of good rain which will bring harvest forward for these operations.
