This pavilion celebrates the Declaration by the Mayor, Councilor Jim Slattery that the Shire of Cootamundra is a Rotary Peace Community.
The Governor will also unveil two plaques which will be on plinths at the ends of the stone seat.
The Peace Pavilion has now been completed, a project which was possible thanks to several grants received.
The major grant came from The NSW Government Community Building Program and also Rotary District 9700, Australian Government Saluting their Service Commemorations Program, Soroptimist International Cootamundra and the former Cootamundra Apex Club.
As important was the support of architect Hugo Harpley who donated his services, engineer John Coulter who charged for his services at half price, Secure Techniques who kept watch over the building at critical times and Garry Harris who as a Friend of Rotary was very generous with his fees.
Building this structure was no easy task as the design presented many challenges, according to Rotarian Hugh Hamilton.
“The tradesmen who built the Peace Pavilion are more than that, they are craftsmen,” Mr Hamilton said.
Amongst the tradies responsible were Lindsay Rickett and his son Johno who built and erected the structure.
Paul Crick laid the pebblecrete floor and fitted the wording into it. Garry Harris obtained the stone for the unique seat.
Aircare Engineering cut the stainless steel “Rotary Doves” and all the lettering in the floor and Young Powder Coating gave the metalwork a great finish.
The last two businesses were used as the services were not available in town.
“Cootamundra Shire Council and officers have been very helpful with advice and some “in-kind” work such as site preparation and cleaning the Doves after construction,” Mr Hamilton said.
Following the opening by the Governor, the Rotary Club will hold a dinner at which the Governor and his wife will be the official guests.
The Governor has already said that he would like to meet many people and this will be an ideal opportunity.
