Delighted to be saying Happy Birthday to Ellie Morton who has just celebrated her birthday. On Saturday next Ellie relinquishes her Miss Showgirl title as our 2014 Showgirl is announced.
Ellie has done a first-class job, and she said she has enjoyed mentoring our three candidates who await the judges decision on Saturday.
GENERATION OF ARTISTS
“Through the Eyes of Generations” is a collection of artworks done by the Fisher family, Rita, daughters Jennifer Forster and Marg Peck together with granddaughter Jessica Forster.
AND they will show a variety of styles and media in this eclectic display which will be Officially Opened at The Khaya on Saturday, October 25, at 6.30pm and will continue through most of November.
It will be well worth a visit to The Kahya after the opening, and perhaps think about one of the paintings for a christmas gift.
IAN’S PASSING
Many locals will be saddened to hear of the passing of former Cootamundra man Ian Gordon (“Coota”) Sheather. Ian passed away at his Wagga home on Monday last, October 13, after a short battle with cancer. He was aged 71 years.
Ian played Rugby league here in town back in the 1960’s, he and his wife Gillian loved Cootamundra. Gillian was a former Gobarralong girl, her brother is Billy Carberry who ran the Coolac Store for many years.
SYMPATHY is extended to Gillian and their children Phillip, Annmarie, Lucile and Vanessa and their families at this sad time.
Ian’s ‘farewell’ will take place tomorrow at St. Michael’s Cathedral, Wagga, commencing at 10am.
MODEL AEROPLANES
TODAY the Invitational Scale Classic Down Under will lift off at Cootamundra’s flying field situated out on Gundagai Road, and pilots from across the country are in the district to showcase their pure scale aircrafts.
It’s a free event, open to the public and there could be up to 80 planes on display between now and Sunday.
The planes are built exactly to scale, and up to one third of the actual size.
Event coordinator John Rolfe would like to invite Cootamundra locals to take a short drive on Gundagai Road and see the grand display of aeronautical engineering workmanship.
There will be food stalls and non-alcoholic drinks at the flying field and to top things off a gala night will be held in town on Saturday October 18.
Do take the children out for a look at these splendid model planes in action.
AMANDA’S CAUSE
Nothing much has changed with reference to Amanda Norman’s debilitating disease, MS.
She said ‘I find each day a little harder than the last so can’t wait to get to Russia. I’m in close contact with Aussies who have already been, who are currently in hospital in Russia, and who are still waiting to go and we have all become like family. The cure for MS this Russian doctor offers is amazing!!
To see people who once used a walking stick, now out jogging, makes me cry with hope. I’ve been doing presentations to local Apex and Rotary Clubs and have been overwhelmed by the support. If there are any Cootamundra Groups who would be interested in hearing about my journey, I would love to share my story of hope with them.
I will be home in Coota for the cake stall on Friday and will be available to answer any questions people may have.’
Amanda is pictured here with her daughter Teagan when in Coota earlier this year speaking of her ‘yen’ for a cure!
